The idea for EventCanvas started when a customer asked how many tables could fit inside a 10 x 40 tent. The customer wanted to visualize the layout, not just receive a number. While looking for a clear way to answer that question, GPLANN first tried to find existing tools that could help, but found that available event layout and CAD-style planning tools were paid. John Lavapie, CMO of GPLANN, then decided to create a simple layout tool himself.
After creating the tool for GPLANN’s own use, the company realized it could be useful to more people who were trying to answer similar layout questions. GPLANN then decided to make EventCanvas free and available for anyone to use.
“We first created EventCanvas because we needed a practical way to answer layout questions for ourselves,” said John Lavapie, CMO of GPLANN. “But once we started using it, we realized this could be helpful for other people too. Many people just want to see whether their event setup makes sense, and they should not have to pay for a tool just to answer that kind of question.”
By offering EventCanvas, GPLANN aims to make event layout planning easier for anyone who wants to understand how event items may fit in a real space. The tool gives people a practical way to test a layout, adjust spacing, and visualize their event setup before finalizing their plan.
GPLANN also plans to continue upgrading EventCanvas by adding more event items and improving the tool over time. The company is also exploring a future 3D version, which would give people another way to visualize their event space and better understand how their setup may look.
